What To Expect as You Recover from Your Breast Implant Removal

Women elect to have breast implants removed for many reasons. Some of these reasons may be for aesthetic purposes. For others, they may have hit the 10 to 15-year mark when it is time to replace their breast implants or have them completely removed. If you consider having your breast implants removed in the Plano, Texas area, you can reach out to Dr. Patrick Obasi at Noble Cosmetic Surgery. Dr. Obasi is a highly trained cosmetic surgeon who has extensive experience removing breast implants. Once your implants have been removed, there are things you should know about recovery.

WHAT YOU SHOULD EXPECT AFTER REMOVAL

First, recovery time should be just a few days. Many patients who have breast implants removed are back to regular everyday activity (minus strenuous athletic activities) within three to four days. The first few days after your surgery is when you will feel the most discomfort. During this time, you should take your pain medications as prescribed to minimize this discomfort. Your doctor will provide you with specific instructions regarding changing your bandages, cleaning around the incision sites, how you should shower, and other post-operation activities. While you will be able to shower after about 24 hours, you should avoid taking a bath or getting in a hot tub or swimming pool. Complications are rare, but it is not out of the realm of possibility as with any medical procedure. If you experience any difficulties or infections, call your doctor immediately.

LONG TERM RECOVERY

You should expect some level of soreness and sensitivity for about six weeks as you fully recover from the procedure. While you will be able to resume your daily routine after about 3 to 4 days, there are some things you will want to avoid, including:

  • Lifting items over 5 to 10 pounds
  • Exercise
  • Sleeping on your side or stomach

Once you hit around six weeks, you will return to your doctor for a post-op appointment, during which your doctor will discuss what you can and cannot do at that point of your recovery. If you want to have your breast implants removed, you can schedule an appointment with Dr. Patrick Obasi by calling 214-227-0668 today.
